Building Worlds, Building Community

Exhibition design, web design & promotion

Lehigh Libraries’ acquisition of Robert Lichtman's science fiction collection inspired an exhibition that showcased how the genre fosters building bonds and community. On display were fanzines and archival materials from Worldcons (World Science Fiction Conventions) from the 1930s through present day. I planned and designed this exhibit and all promotional material.

This is an ongoing project—check back in for updates!

Exploring the World(s) of Sci-Fi, Digitally

I designed the on-site interactive screen to allow visitors to more deeply engage with the sci-fi genre—through a collection of curated resources. I used the opportunity to propose an updated system for all exhibit webpages moving forward—to extend visitors’ experience beyond the physical gallery and allow virtual visits.

Building Community

Because sci-fi and fanzine culture are both rooted in community, I gave visitors opportunities to engage with the exhibit and each other—inviting them to create their own zines by providing prompts, materials and guidance (those who chose to contribute their work could have it displayed as part of the exhibition!) Visitors were also invited to send a message to a friend using exhibit postcards.
